DECORATIVE PLASTERS.

On any given design project the question “What color should I paint the walls?” comes up. Wall color can make a big impact on the feel of the room, but latex paint is not the only way to make a color change. My favorite wall treatments are decorative plasters made from natural materials. These decorative plasters can be tinted to any color and applied in a variety of colors and textures ranging from rough to mirror smooth. Decorative plaster can work with any style from Tuscan to ultra modern.
There are two different types of plaster. The first type is called Marmorino. Marmorino plaster is made with limestone, marble, and sand. Marmorino is a great application for kitchens and baths. It is very durable and can be sealed to make it water proof. The second plaster is Venetian. This plaster can also be used in kitchens and baths, but is better suited for dry environments. Venetian is made with limestone and a higher percentage of marble dust than Marmorino. The marble enables Venetian plaster to be polished and waxed to a very high shine.
The beauty of a plaster finish is something a coat of paint can never achieve. The next time you want to change your wall color, consider a decorative plaster instead of paint.

LIGHT, COLOR, ACTION!

Color can be used in a variety of ways to make a statement. Some obvious
choices are painted accent walls, colorful window treatments, or a simple pillow. Another
way to add color is with light. Colored LEDs can be installed in a variety of locations andarrangements. They can light up a window, wash a wall, or be hidden behind frosted glass to create a glowing countertop.

Stretch Your Dollar

I would imagine one of the most important things on our minds these days is how can I stretch my dollar, let’s face it, we are all more money conscious these days. Of course that doesn’t mean that you have to throw in the towel on all home improvements. The most popular designs these days are the ones that incorporate a bit of new to refresh the old. Just think of how a new blouse can transform a boring outfit. Well the same can be said for a fresh coat of paint, new accent pillows, a fresh slipcover and updated picture frames. Good design doesn’t have to brake the bank but it does require a trained eye, so don’t be intimidated when your room needs a “pick-me-up.” A good designer can help you work with what you have, after all, that’s good design.

QUESTION FOR OUR FANS

I am interested in your feelings on design. Here are a few questions to get the ball rolling.
How do you feel about your home?
Another way to ask that question is, What type of space are you the most comfortable in
and why?
What do you like about it?
Is there anything you wish was different?
Feel free to post your answers and maybe we can generate an interesting discussion.

RIP Chair

Don’t you hate it when you buy a chair or sofa and it’s either too soft or too hard to sit in? Or maybe it’s your grandmother’s favorite chair that has been passed down to you and it’s completely worn and sunken in and possibly even has a spring that pokes you right in rear every time you sit in it. Well, all of this can be fixed with a little help from our vendors.
Some of our vendors will even let you sit in your chair or sofa to test it as they add or remove just the right amount of stuffing to your liking.
Sound too good to be true? Just give us a call and see how we can make your dreams come true.

FW Interiors reveals one of our latest projects: Dutchess Golf and Country Club

In April  2010, the Bonura Hospitality Group expanded to include Rolling Greens at the Dutchess Golf and Country Club in Poughkeepsie , NY .  The Bonura Group entrusted FW Interiors to be part of this renaissance that allowed us to create a more modern feeling to an established tradition in the  lobby, gallery and dining room by  using rich chocolate,  deep-dark burgundy, and  an antique gold color palette.

I went hiking the other day at Mohonk Mountains and made my own little hiking trail through a crack in the rocks. The breeze through the rocks was so refreshing and got better and better the closer you got to the skinny entrance. I love how large rocks and caves have their own natural air conditioning. It just makes you wish you could live with rocks surrounding your house. Unfortunately, it is unlikely that we will have a house like that, but the other alternative could be to bring natural stone into your home. Bringing natural stone could be that cooling factor that you need in this hot weather. It may not be as cool as the caves but it will definitely cool off those toes.

COLOR TREND

The use of color for every interior design application is crucial in setting the mood and direction for that space. I love the sultry hues for 2010-2011. For our readers who are interested in staying ahead of the curve here are the color themes and trends coming from design industry forecasters like Lee Eiseman at the  Pantone Color Institute and Victoria Redshaw from Trend Forecasters. Below are some thoughts and samples about the color trends for this year. FALL IN LOVE WITH YOUR HOME! For more information on how the use of color can impact your space contact a interiors designer at  www.fwinteriorsdesign.com

1.TURQUOISE: 2010 is a big year for blue and a strong shade of turquoise sets a summery tone that is sure to give an upbeat vibe. Turquoise is very versatile and looks amazing with all sorts of unexpected colors such as Red, Hot Pink, Coral, Chocolate, Malachite Green, Mellow Yellow and Grey!

2. INDIGO: The blue renaissance continues with a deep Indigo. It’s the new Black! It plays a crucial part in moving the whole ‘tribal’ trend forward and gives a sophisticated African aesthetic.

3. MELLOW YELLOW: Get in the mood with Mimosa! It’s time to rethink Yellow and team it with some trendy partners like Grey or Indigo. Yes it gives us a sun-shine vibe but it can also creates a very sophisticated room scheme, is unisex and projects color-confidence without being ‘in your face’!

4. COPPER: Metallics move away from Yellow-Gold towards warmer Copper tones. Expect to also see Bronze and Rose-tinted Golds…and Blackened Gold!

5. GREEN: From Moss to Malachite, Kelly to Chlorophyll…greens are used in 2010 as a literal expression of Green issues being so high profile. Look out for sharp Lime accents popping up in unexpected places!

6. RED: A bold block of rich red delivers sumptuous glamour to dark room schemes and is also a fantastic peppy accent color for existing neutral or black & white rooms.

7. PUTTY: 2010 is a year dominated by femininity in design…curvaceous furniture shapes, soft handle fabrics and nude tones including shades of putty, intimate pinks and soft blush peach.

8. GREY: This new neutral is here to stay! Use shades of Grey in the same way as you would cream, beige or white as it works with just about every color you can think of.

9. CORAL: Striking Coral shades alongside Pink jewel tones and rich Maroons provide an exotic vibe…but Coral can also play a starring role in neutral room schemes that have a calm, beach aesthetic. It looks great next to the pebble Grey shade!

10. WHITE: It’s the future!
